Tuesday night = cheap movies at the Osio
I saw Broken Flowers tonight. I plan to see it again and buy the soundtrack. What do other people think?

The preview for Everything Is Illuminated looks nothing like the book. I still insist that the book club see it together.

You're right. Liev Schreiber said before that the scope of the book was beyond his resources, so he had to pare it down a little. As quoted in this week's Onion AV Club Interview:
After I read the whole book, as gorgeous as it was, I didn't think I had the resources to make that kind of movie, and I was primarily concerned with a low-budget independent road movie. So it was just the story of Jonathan running into Alex, and Alex's grandfather, and the dog Sammy Davis Jr. Jr. I had already started work on a script of my own about a guy who goes to Ukraine to find out where his grandfather's from and what it means to be Ukrainian, and that was sort of a road movie as well, so it was really about fusing the two screenplays. I finished the script in about a month and a half.

On the topic of Broken Flowers... I was gonna write an entry on it, but ended up not. Maybe I'll revisit the topic one of these days. Isn't the soundtrack wonderful? Maybe I can find a torrent of it somewhere (I did!) If anybody wants it, I can probably share it on yousendit. Two of the tracks that Bill Murray plays on repeat is by a funky Ethiopian artist named Mulatu Astatke.

I'm withholding judgment on the Everything Is Illuminated movie...until our book club goes to see it.

Can you please make me a copy of the soundtrack? Let's see a movie this week or next?!
